24 MAY 2016

On 5 May, Rumours Lounge in Weltevredenpark JHB, hosted the 5th of the Battle heats.

The bands involved in the clash were:

Aimed at You

Legions Ablaze

OctaInium, took the 1st Gauteng heat.

This is what the metalcore band had to say:

What is your take on the show you were specifically apart of?

The turnout was really great for a school night and we had a blast! All the bands on the bill were really good so it was a tight competition!

Besides yourselves, who were you rooting for, to go through in your heat?

We personally felt that it was a tight call between Hokum, Legions Ablaze and ourselves, but anything can happen at a judged competition as we all know. We feel honored to have won our heat!

Were you guys nervous before your set and why/why not?

Not really, no. We saw it as a normal show where we give it our best, as we always do. People pay money to come out to shows and we always want to do our best to help them get their money’s worth and have a great night out.

How do feel your set in particular went down.

It went down well! We prepared a 20min set with little time to play around with, so the 1st few songs were done back-to-back to minimize the time in-between songs and in doing that we had enough time to squeeze in 5 songs. All went according to plan, luckily.

What was your first thought, when they announced your band as the winners going through to the finals?

I poked my brother (Gert, the drummer) in the back saying “hey, we won!” and we went to the stage together. I was delighted that we went through, but I can’t really recall my thoughts at the time.

How do you guys feel about going through to the finals?

Well it is a step closer to the ultimate goal- to play at W.O.A 2016! It will be a tight competition indeed! All the bands playing are really good bands and we will definitely bring our A-game on the night! We’re delighted to play at the finals, fingers crossed we can take it all the way to W.O.A!

Of all the finalist, who are your favourites to win?

We back ourselves and consider Octainium to be one of the favourites- personally I feel that Zombies, Vulvodynia and Riddlebreak are our biggest contenders for the title, but as I said before- all the bands on the bill are really good and have an equal chance to win.

If you guys should go on and win the battle, what would that mean for you?

It’d be a dream come true! We would be super stoked to represent South Africa at WOA!

Which of the following do you prefer?

Wein oder Bier?

Kartoffeln, Wurst oder Eisbein?

Eisbein, und bier!

See you all at the Wacken Metal Battle South Africa, 28 May at Rumours
